-New IBIA.org Website Pairs Accessible Education on How Biometric Technologies Work With Clear, Proactive Voice on Policy and Ethics-
Washington, D.C. (July 14, 2026)—The International Biometrics + Identity Association (IBIA), the leading voice for the biometric and identity technology industry since 1998, announced today the launch of a redesigned website at www.ibia.org. The new site reflects IBIA’s sharpened mission to advocate for and educate on behalf of the providers of biometric and identity technologies—and to advance the adoption and responsible use of solutions that verify and manage unique human identities to enhance security, privacy, productivity, and convenience.
The redesigned site was built specifically to serve policymakers, the media, and the general public who may have questions or concerns about biometric and identity technologies, their use, and their impact on consumers’ everyday lives. It translates often-technical material into plain language, including how biometric systems and modalities actually work and where these technologies are used across government, financial services, healthcare, travel, law enforcement, and consumer/enterprise applications.
“The biometrics industry is too often defined by its critics rather than by the people it protects, and our new online presence is built to provide critical information on how biometric technologies work, the benefits of identity technologies to consumers’ everyday lives, and how these technologies should be used responsibly and ethically,” said Rob Tappan, IBIA’s Executive Director. “We have built this website with great care to make IBIA a more accessible and authoritative resource for policymakers, the media, and the public at large.”
The website also includes a new, dedicated Issues section designed to present information and IBIA’s positions on the questions that matter most to the public and to lawmakers, including law enforcement use of facial recognition technologies, immigration and biometric entry/exit for travel, as well as critical issues involving privacy and civil liberties, accuracy and bias, and ethics. The IBIA’s new online presence was also built to accommodate a robust communications and education initiative featuring regular releases of media statements, fact sheets, issue/policy briefs, podcasts, and other materials.
The redesigned website is live now at www.ibia.org. Companies and stakeholders interested in membership or receiving regular updates from IBIA can learn more at the site or sign up for IBIA’s newsletter by clicking here.
