Biometrics are the new frontier in accurate time and attendance systems. So-called “buddy punching”, where one person fraudulently reports to work on behalf of another employee, is a significant source of loss for many businesses. This type of fraud is all but eliminated by biometrics, which ensure that employees punching in are doing so only for themselves.
Biometrics also protect against fraudulent use of cashier overrides. Manager overrides of transactions and refunds are often done with a card or password which can be stolen or fraudulently used. With a biometric system, every transaction can be traced definitively to a single person, who can then be held accountable for their actions – a strong deterrent to fraud.
